Artists in Japan Art Institute (Nihon Bijutsuin)

Founded in 1898 around Tenshin Okakura, who had been forced out as principal of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and resigned; more than ten Japanese-style painters, sculptors and craftsmen gathered with him, among them Gaho Hashimoto, who had resigned his teaching post alongside Tenshin. Today it is concerned with Japanese painting only.
