An art body for painting in oils and for prints. In 1922 seven painters who had left the Western painting section of the Japan Art Institute — Hoan Kosugi, Genichiro Adachi, Hakuyo Kurata, Noboru Hasegawa, Tsunetomo Morita, Kanae Yamamoto and Ryuzaburo Umehara — founded its painting room, and in 1928 Kiyoshi Hasegawa joined and a print room was added. It was suspended for a time during the war and revived as an open exhibition in 1947.
