An art body of Japanese-style painters in the yamato-e line. It was first formed about 1898 by Yukihiko Yasuda, Choshu Isoda, Eitatsu Koyama and others among the pupils of Tomoto Kobori, under the name Shiko-kai; in 1900 Shiko Imamura, a pupil of Fuko Matsumoto, joined and it was renamed the Koji-kai. The first exhibition was held in 1902. Kokei Kobayashi, Seison Maeda, Gakuryo Nakamura and Gyoshu Hayami also joined, and the group worked towards the creation of a new Japanese painting until it disbanded in 1913. Most of its members afterwards were central to the revived Inten.
