He completed his graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1967. In 1970 he became an associate member of the Japan Art Institute. In 1982 “Ruten”, shown at the sixty-seventh Inten, received the Japan Art Institute Prize, and he became a special member of the Institute. Among his recent work is the dedication of sliding-door paintings to the Saigu at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu in 2004. He is now a councillor of the Japan Art Institute and a director and vice-president of Tokyo University of the Arts. Fond of malachite green, he is a painter skilled at expressing the fine feeling of the Japanese.
