Short for the “Imperial Art Academy Exhibition”. Held by the Imperial Art Academy from 1919 as the successor to the Bunten (Ministry of Education Art Exhibition), which had been founded as the government exhibition in 1907. In 1937, with the founding of the Imperial Art Academy (Teikoku Geijutsuin), it was renamed the Shin-Bunten, and in 1946 the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (Nitten).
