He graduated from the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and from the Japanese painting course of the Kyoto Municipal Special School of Painting, and studied under Seiho Takeuchi. He afterwards turned to oil painting. He was a member of the Shunyokai from 1927 to 1934, and from 1934 of the Dokuritsu Bijutsu Kyokai. In 1953 he received the Minister of Education’s Art Encouragement Prize. He was also active as a collector and critic, and worked to raise the cultural life of Onomichi. He went on painting landscapes across the country from life until his death in an accident on a sketching journey in November 1974.
