In 1922 he founded Sensation with Haruo Matsushita and others. In 1924 his work was selected for the fifth Teiten at his first attempt, and in 1934 “Woman Shading Her Eyes” received a special prize at the fifteenth. In 1951 he showed “Ballerina” at the seventeenth Nitten and at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in Paris. After a year in Europe he received the Japan Art Academy Prize for “In the Studio”, shown at the eleventh Nitten. In 1968 he became a professor at Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, and in 1970 chairman of the Kofukai; he received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Third Class. In 1971 he became an adviser to the Nitten.
