She studied under Tadao Yoshimura and graduated from the Women’s Special School of Fine Arts. From 1946 she studied under Yukihiko Yasuda. Her work was selected many times, at the Inten and elsewhere. From 1966 she took up as her life’s work a series of portraits, painting shoguns and warriors at first and later taking ukiyo-e artists such as Hokusai Katsushika as her main subject. Her series of Mount Fuji is also well known. Member of the Japan Art Academy; Person of Cultural Merit; recipient of the Order of Culture, 1989.
