(Tsuchiya) Koitsu
Ukiyo-e artist and printmaker. From Shizuoka. At sixteen he entered the studio of Kobayashi Kiyochika, and for the next thirty years lived with the Kobayashi family almost as one of them. The warm colour he took from his master is the mark of his work, and in his landscape prints he rendered light and water with great gentleness and beauty. At the time of the Sino-Japanese war he also made a triptych nishiki-e of the peace negotiations.
