Mukai Junkichi
He entered the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts (now Kyoto City University of Arts) in 1914 but left in 1916. Moving to Tokyo in 1920, he attended the Kawabata Painting School and was selected for the seventh Nika exhibition. In 1927 he went to France and travelled about Europe; while there he studied the old masters and tried Fauvist and Expressionist manners, but in 1934 he settled on realism and made many works with the Japanese farmhouse as his motif. His realism carries an atmosphere of its own.
