After studying under Bisei Unno he became a pupil of Fumio Asakura. In 1916 “Heikichi” was selected for the tenth Bunten at his first attempt. From 1921 he travelled to England and France, spending fifteen years in France. During that time he was drawn to archaic Greek sculpture and became skilled in terracotta.
