He graduated from the Japanese painting course of the Kyoto Municipal Special School of Painting (now Kyoto City University of Arts) in 1944. In 1956 he became a member of the Japanese painting section of the Shinseisaku Association; in 1970 a professor at Kyoto City University of Arts, and afterwards a visiting professor at Kyoto Junior College of Art and a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design. A member of the Sokaikai from its beginning, he has continued to the present to paint many works with maiko and the nude as his subjects. After receiving the Minister of Education’s Art Encouragement Prize at the twenty-first awards, he declined all subsequent prizes.
