Ukiyo-e artist. He first studied under Kano Eisen’in Michinobu, then learned ukiyo-e from Ryusai and took Torii Kiyonaga as his model. His early work might be called a following of Kiyonaga, but in the Kansei era he arrived at his own elegant beauties of twelve head-lengths, and influenced Utamaro in turn. He was also a fine painter in ink and colour, leaving works with the same clear, unaffected feeling as his prints.
