Uemura Shoen (1875-1949) was a Japanese-style painter from Kyoto. She studied under Suzuki Shonen, Takeuchi Seiho and others. She is primarily known for her serene Beauty, which was depicted from woman’s point of view. She was the first awardee of the Order of Culture.
