Tetsuya Mishima loves classical oil painting to excess, and paints still life and the nude with colours he has developed himself.

He makes no attempt to hide his interest in the backside, and the result is provocative enough to make you giddy.

写真を全く使わず、モデルを数時間拘束して描く、という実は近頃の写実の人たちの中では珍しいスタイルを貫く三嶋。その裏に、最近の絵は、写真を多用することで、絵画性、肉体性を失ってしまっているという現実がある。彼の画業は、その絵画的怠惰をひとり振り払っているのだ。

世の中、写実ブームなどと言われているが、実は画派にはいくつかあって、一枚岩ではない。彼の場合は、徹底して懐古的に技術を追求した上で、あらたな技術を開発している。その知識と技術には舌を巻く。（代表 田中千秋）
