Kano Tanyu
Kano Tanyu (1602-1674) was a painter patronized by Tokugawa Bakufu. A grandson of Kano Eitoku. He unrolled a refined and elegant painting style, getting out of the exaggerated expression of Eitoku. He challenged to incorporate Yamato-e painting’s graceful colorful world with his own painting style, and further searched for new painting style and subjects, through study of ancient paintings or sketches.
