Alongside her work as an illustrator creating cover art for books, in recent years she has presented oil paintings at solo exhibitions and art fairs. Drawing on memories of growing up in the suburbs of Tokyo in the late Showa era and on the influence of American painting and literature, she perceives the presence and emptiness lurking beneath the calm of everyday life as a kind of "American nostalgia." Through the coexistence of visual comfort and an unsettling texture, she depicts, from her own perspective, the phantom of an intangible ideal once longed for.
