He entered the Japanese painting course of Kyoto City University of Arts in 1953. In 1956 his work was selected for the spring exhibition of the Japanese painting section of the Shinseisaku Association. In 1992 he was honoured for cultural merit by Kyoto Prefecture, and in 1995 received the Japan Art Academy Prize. In 1999 he became vice-president of Kyoto City University of Arts. Director of the Shohaku Museum of Art. Member of the Japan Art Academy and of the Sokaikai.
