Here we introduce what customers have told us after buying a work from SHUKADO, together with photographs of the pictures in the rooms where they now hang. We hope you enjoy them.
H., Hong Kong | Purchased: Hiroshige, “Fireworks at Ryogoku”, from One Hundred Famous Views of Edo
H., who lives in Hong Kong, bought Hiroshige’s “Fireworks at Ryogoku” from One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. It hangs alongside a work by a young contemporary artist from Taiwan.
O. | Purchased: Okamoto Toko, “Flowers of Abundance” and “Floating in Still Water”
The home of O., who bought Okamoto Toko’s “Flowers of Abundance” and “Floating in Still Water”. It looked so good that we asked to take a photograph after delivery.
I., France | Purchased: Okada Undo, “Flowers and Grasses of Spring and Autumn”, a pair of six-panel screens
I., who lives abroad, ordered Okada Undo’s “Flowers and Grasses of Spring and Autumn”. “The packing, and the condition of the screens as well, were better than I had expected, which was a relief. We have put them in the living room and the guest bedroom.” The message came with photographs of a beautiful house in France.
S., Tokyo | Purchased: Suda Kokuta, “Artichoke”
The Suda Kokuta has arrived. Thank you. It is as good as I hoped. It has tempo; the growth in it seems to push out not only past the canvas but past the frame as well. The colouring is dark, but the darkness is exactly what holds that energy together at the right pitch.
U., Niigata | Purchased: calligraphy by Aisin-Gioro Pujie
This was my first hanging scroll. When I bought it you took the trouble to teach me how to hang it and how to look after it, and I do as you said, putting it up and taking it down as the moment suits. Ours is an ordinary household and we have had little to do with works of art until now, but my elderly parents, who live with us, like it very much.
U., Niigata | Purchased: Komuro Suiun, “Viewing a Waterfall from a Mountain Pavilion”
I am delighted with the hanging scroll you suggested. I have always liked pictures of landscapes with water in them — rivers, lakes, the sea. The one you found seems to show a waterfall; the clear water falling looks fresh and cool, and it should suit the alcove in early summer. Thank you for finding me such a good picture.
G. | Purchased: Hiroshige, “Shinagawa-juku” from The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido
I bought Utagawa Hiroshige’s “Shinagawa-juku: Sunrise” from The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, had it framed and hung it in the entrance hall. Every time I go in or out I look at it, and it pleases me. I enjoy the catalogue too, and go back to it again and again.
O. | A devoted reader of our catalogue
I always read SHUKADO’s catalogue and newsletter with great interest. The introductions to the artists and their works teach me a great deal. The way I enjoy collecting is to buy several inexpensive works rather than one expensive one; that suits me.
