A. Customers often ask us what to make of the price per go — the standard Japanese canvas size — printed in the yearbooks and similar publications.
The price of a painting does have something to do with its size, but far more with how well the painting has come off and what condition it is in. Every picture is different, and the price is not settled by the artist and the square measure.
What is more, a printed price per go is often a long way from what a work actually sells for, or is actually bought for — usually on the high side.
A printed price per go is best taken as a rough measure of how well known the artist is.
