“One of a kind. We are looking for art no one has seen before.”

Contemporary art, Nihonga, Western-style painting: the categories matter less than the work, and every age wants work that gives it a new experience. The muni Art Award is an audition for newcomers, but it was started this year with a larger aim — to find, for the next generation, the artists who will actually change something.

From more than 230 entries, this exhibition shows the Grand Prix, the individual jurors’ prizes and the finalists, selected after careful judging.
