Chiaki Tanaka

I am Chiaki Tanaka, president of Shukado and owner of GALLERY SCENA. I am the second generation at Shukado, and the third generation of the Tanaka family to deal in art.

I had meant to work in film. After a good many turns, I began working in the family business with my father here in 2003.

I was already in my late thirties — a late start in a trade where people usually apprentice from their youth. But I draw on what came before: making amateur films, some years of dairy farming, and designing systems for a large company. What I want to build is a full-service art company that is thoughtful, expressive, and strong as a team.
